An Introduction to the Bardic Class

Bards, ancient music makers of lore, with names ranging from meistersingsto minstrels. In history they be folk who bring music and entertainment aswell as news to areas that rarely saw any of those three. In EverQuest theybe musicians as well as a typical jack-of-all-trades in their very broadassortment of skills.

Their music, or what are referred to as spell-songs, are useful to both the Bardand any of those traveling with him. As long as the Bard is healthy andplaying they need not worry about their invisibility or water breathingfailing at a bad moment in an adventure.

It is true that Bards do much better in groups in EverQuest then they doalone... many folk take that to mean they do poorly alone, but this is nottrue. When they are alone, many of their talents are wasted and can be usedfor so much more, but they are most definitely not weak when accompanied by no one.

They are fairly poor warriors, although they can fight to defend themselves--especially with the aid of one of their spell songs or companions. Bardic songs make nearly anything possible, includingfrom healing one's self or party members; harming all enemies in the immediate vicinity; making mighty warriors attack with a vigor unlike any other, attacking morebrutal and quicker than normally possible; to sneaking an entire partypast a dangerous area without a hint of their passing.

In short, Bards have many skills but will not receive many of them until higher levels. They can wear plate armor andwield most weapons except bows and two-handed slashing. Their songs are agreat asset to groups and can enhance any group's abilities to much higher thannormal.

Bards also provide great opportunities and avenues for roleplaying. They can travel seeking knowledge and new songs, orplay at various festivities. Bards may also act as anything from a highnoble to a lowly street musician. They can stick to one area, or travel, andmake friends of all types. A Bard can charming and gentlemanly, or not.

Bards are most definitely not the best class, and they are most definitely notthe worst... but this is easy to say about any class in EverQuest. Bards are balanced along with all the other classes, possibly more so than most, since they are, in essence, half warrior and half magic-user. Whatever your preferences, this jack-of-all-trades should have something for you.
