Quote: Introduction
So clerics float your boat, do they? Well, you are not alone by a long shot. Many thrill seekers find it just as much fun to heal, buff, and be mainly a support player in a group as they do to take and dish out the damage of the group. Well, if you like this kind of thing, you have arrived to the correct destination. Clerics are going to be mainly a support character, but still maintain the ability to hop into melee for a few rounds of battle to take the load off of the tank a bit, inflict the enemy with pain, and to show off how well that bright beautiful full plate that you worked so hard to get, covers those precious bones of yours. Getting Started You are going to need to pick out a race that your cleric is going to be You have a descent amount of selection in this area: Humans, High Elves, Dwarves, etc. Now these races have a little bearing on the way you are going to play. The race you chose is strictly up to you and how you weigh out the pluses and minuses. Then you will need to allocate those bonus points of yours into the areas you see fit. I would recommend wisdom and whatever other category your race isn't too strong in. After this and a few other bleak decisions you can enter Norrath. Just like any other class, you are going to want to fulfill your quest and find your guild, and then you are gonna want to scribe and memorize those spells you start out with (courage and minor healing). Now that you have done this, you are going to want to keep courage on at all times, and you are ready to head out and fight. Levels 1-4 In these four levels you are going to be mainly doing the same things, going out and killing unimpressive game and gaining experience, taking what little loot you have back to the bank and the such. When you save up a few gold pieces you are going to want to purchase strike, lull, and maybe yaulp if you are so inclined. These spells will be very useful, especially strike and yaulp. You will see the great uses of lull at levels 4-8. After this, you are going to want to buy a backpack to carry your loot in so you can stay out longer. And also when you get the money, get rid of that nasty club and pick up a rusty mace, or if you want to go the 2 hand blunt skill route, buy a worn great staff and train a couple of points in 2hblunt. Try to find someone with tailoring skill and get some patchwork armor, money willing. You will need to buy a fishing pole and bait, as you will not get food back when you die anymore at level 4. Levels 5-8 At level five you will begin to see what powers the cleric truly possesses. You will get access to your first good damage spell and the healing spell you will be using until level 14. As soon as you reach level five, you are going to want to run back to your guild and purchase some spells. You will want to purchase ward undead, lesser healing, gate, and summon water. The other spells of this rank could be useful later on when you get money. Now memorize your new spells and join up with a tank of similar level. Your ward undead will be quite a formidable punch against the unsuspecting undead vermin. Ward will carry you for a while. Find a good place for undead and solo them when you are comfortable. Now you can go to camps and lull the monsters one at a time. You will learn the ins and outs of tactics at these levels and become better for your group. At level 8, you will get meditate, FINALY! Go back to your guild and put one practice point into meditate, because with just 1 point, it will go up very, very fast. Levels 9-13 At level 9, you will get a new spell rank and you are going to feel the pain of Norrath's depressed economy for probably the first time. You are going to want to spend around 20-25 plat on spells at level 9 and the odds are, you aren't going to have it. If you have the money, you are going to need to buy summon food (fishing can sill be a little profitable if no one to group and fight with ,so don't throw your pole away just yet) and center. The tanks LOVE center, it will buff them up and let you gain lots of experience, so make sure they have it on at all times. Now here comes the decisions and more decisions, you will need to buy summon hammer if you are using 1hblunt, so you can get a rusty warhammer at your hearts will. You will also probably want to pick up soothe to replace the all but useless lull, as many creatures will be resisting it now. There may be other spells you will want to buy also. At these levels, you are going to come into your own as to how a cleric will be played in the future levels. You can discover what lie before you on your journey. I will leave you with this one remark, DO NOT WORRY, THE MONEY TROUBLES WILL GET BETTER! |
